The Start of Something New | An Investment That Matters

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven -Matthew 5:16 NIV

Everyone needs a little motivation, especially when you have invested your time, money, and attention into something. Whether that something be a wedding, a business, or even your spiritual life, you can always dig a little deeper and focus in. With the start of the new school year and a busy season coming on strong, we wanted to start a blog series to share with you investments that matter…

The Start of Something New

Now we aren’t gonna bust out in High School Musical sound track with “The Start of Something New”, but it does have a nice ring to it. Last Wednesday night we got the chance to hear our best friend Michael speak to our youth students. The title of his message was “That’s a Big Investment” and he talked about the investments that matter in your walk with Christ. Being kind to one another and making the most of each moment with friends and family. Wanting to invest in those relationships that mean the most and not passing up a chance to share the love of God with them.

After church we had some work that we needed to finish up but we couldn’t forget Michael’s message. We took a moment and realized what big investments we have made and thought about how we want to live out those investments and start new ones. So today starts the first blog of many, and we want to share about the different investments currently in our lives.

The biggest investment in our lives right now is serving. We love to serve and we love to help out in any way that we can. Serving isn’t just a job or something that we are forced into, but it brings such joy in our lives that we WANT to do it! Serving for us means being youth leaders, Rachael playing the drums and coaching basketball, and me being the nursery coordinator and teaching my first grade littles! All of these things are extremely important, and recently we have been able to add photography to our service! We love getting the opportunity to serve our clients because the happiness they receive through the photographs is worth everything. Serving in photography doesn’t mean just clicking from behind the camera, but it means developing relationships with our clients and serving them with our best.

Photography is still the start of something new for us and we continue to learn, watch, and practice as much as possible! When I mentioned the thought to Rachael starting a business, I always imagined her pursuing it as HER business because I have a calling to be a teacher. Then, something changed and we were talking about starting the business together, with me on the business side and Rachael doing the creative side. We started something new, and it has taken off. Of course it was scary and it had it’s rough patches, but it truly has been a big investment! Photography is a great gift but it isn’t the only investment in our lives and we like to remember that! Our time in photography is important, just like our other investments, but it won’t lead us anywhere if we don’t invest in others, this world, and our walk with Christ.

We want to take the time to encourage you to make the leap and invest in something big! It doesn’t have to be a business, but it could be a friend or co-worker. Whatever your investment is, go in full heartedly and grow from the experience. What’s the worst that could happen when you give your all and try?
